The hotel's description

MALVASIA HOTEL Three hundred metres from the castle gate, at the end of the stone-paved main street that runs through the town, is the Malvasia Hotel. The eastern section of the walls, the Myrtoan Sea and the open horizon unfold before it. The Malvasia Hotel, among the earliest organised lodgings in the castle, is an imposing complex of stone buildings, created by joining together seven independent houses. The restoration of these houses was undertaken in the mid-1980s, with great respect towards the preserved historical features and unique architectural styles of the castle. Their recent renovation was completed in 2015. The hotel offers 14 rooms, each decorated differently with antique furniture and rugs, that exude the warm atmosphere of the house. Most of the rooms offer beautiful sea views, while many of them have a balcony and their own fireplace. All of them are equipped with air conditioning, refrigerator, satellite TV and Wi-Fi. The Malvasia Hotel has a sitting room, a breakfast room, and a popular bar which operates during the summer months, with a stunning view of the sea. Harmoniously combining traditional elements with modern amenities, it is ideal for all seasons. The hotel’s greatest asset is its enchanting view. So find your favourite spot and let the magic embrace you... STELLAKI MANSION About fifty metres from the castle gate, right on the castle walls, is the Stellaki Mansion. The mansion is one of the town’s oldest and finest buildings and is known to have belonged to one of Monemvasia’s most important families since the 18th century. Restoration of the building was undertaken in the early 1980s, with a minimal intervention. Renovations were completed in July 2009. Its position is unique as the mansion rises above the sea wall, among the castle battlements. Its balcony with stone-built parapet rests on the wall, becoming one with the sea that laps the rocks below. The splendidly restored apartments of the Stellaki Mansion, with their understated luxury, offer an atmospheric environment that harmoniously combines romance and charm with modern amenities. The larger apartments are ideal for families and groups of friends travelling together. Some of these have a fireplace and some have sea views, while others overlook the blossoming inner courtyards. All of them offer air conditioning, satellite TV, Wi-Fi, and a well-equipped kitchenette for preparing breakfast and snacks. For guests staying at the Stellaki Mansion the choices are many. They can take their breakfast at the Malvasia Hotel following a pleasant ten-minute walk through the narrow streets of the fortress town to get there. If, however, they want to relax in their own space, we can supply them with all the local products they need to prepare their own breakfast in their apartment whenever they want.

How to get there

Closest airports Kalamata International Airport (KLX) - approx. 160 km distance (2.5 hours) Athens International Airport (ATH) - approx. 285 km distance (3.5-4 hours)   Transportation info Car: The easiest and quickest route from Athens to Monemvasia is via the highway A7 to Corinth and Tripoli. At Tripoli you take the direction for Sparta following the signs for Monemvasia. Once in Monemvasia drive through the new town over the bridge and you will reach the gate of the legendary Casle Town. After crossing the gate, the reception of Malvasia Traditional Hotel is located on the main alleyway at a distance of approx. 50m on your left hand side. The distance from Athens is approx. 285 km., total driving time +/- 3,5 hours. Another option is after Corinth to take the picturesque road along the coast through Argos, Astros, and Leonidio continuing through mountain roads passing the traditional villages of Kosmas and Geraki. Follow through to Skala, Vlachiotis, Molai and finally Monemvasia. This option is considerably longer through winding mountain roads (aprox. 330 km - 5 hours from Athens) but well worth the reward, with breathtaking natural beauty of both sea views, canyon passes and the mountainous landscape. Our property can also arrange private transfers (taxi) from anywhere in Greece at very low prices. Please contact us for more details.
