Chania is Crete’s second-largest town and the capital of the homonymous regional unit. It lies on the island’s north coast, about 60 km (37 m) west of Rethymno and 135 km (84 m) west of Heraklion. Also known as “Venice of the East”, Chania is divided into two parts: the old town and the larger modern one. The old town is situated all around the old harbor and is the matrix upon which the whole urban area was developed. It used to be surrounded by the old Venetian fortifications, the building of which started in 1538; nowadays only the eastern and western parts of these fortifications survive. Chania has a long and unique history to narrate: once a Minoan settlement, it then went through the Roman, the Byzantine, the Arab, the Venetian and the Ottoman era. Through various revolts, it was finally reunited with the rest of Greece in 1913. The 2nd World War and the Battle of Crete are other important chapters of Cretan history. How to Get to our Hotel in Chania old town, Crete From the airport, follow the signs that will lead you to Chania. Once you enter the town, follow Eleftheriou Venizelou Street, which leads to the municipal market. Continue straight onto Chatzimichali Giannari Street, which soon becomes Skalidi Street. Turn right onto Piraeus Street. Continue straight until you see the sea. Then turn right and drive 50 meters until you reach a free public parking lot at Talos Square. This is the nearest free parking space to Domus Fresco. Do not ignore the signs designating parking spaces for residents. The old town of Chania is in its entirety considered a monument. Therefore, traffic and car parking are restricted.  You will then walk to Domus Fresco, located within walking distance (250 meters) of the parking lot at 8 Akti Kountourioti Str. and exactly above Lithos restaurant.
