Nestled above Symi’s enchanting harbour, The Old Markets is a lovingly restored national monument that carries the soul of the island’s rich history. Once the heart of Symi’s bustling Agora — where traders, sea captains, and travelers gathered beneath vaulted arcades — today it stands reborn as a serene retreat that celebrates its past with quiet elegance and thoughtful luxury.
The building dates back to the 19th century and is part of a protected heritage area, where every stone tells a story. From its days as a sponge trader’s market to its rebirth as a boutique hotel, The Old Markets has preserved the authentic charm of Symi’s golden era while offering the comfort and warmth of modern hospitality. The restoration has been carried out with deep respect: arches, mosaics, and frescoes have been carefully revived, and antique details blend harmoniously with contemporary design.
Set on the picturesque Kali Strata, the property offers captivating views of Symi’s pastel-coloured houses and the endless blue of the Aegean. Guests are invited to slow down, listen to the whisper of the sea, and experience the island’s rhythm from a place that feels both timeless and intimate. Whether you are sipping a glass of local wine on the terrace, reading in the shaded courtyard, or waking to the scent of the sea, The Old Markets is a reminder that true luxury lies in simplicity, authenticity, and peace.
